Past the Horizon is an interactive online platform, built as part of the Photographer Incubator to catalyse exchanges across the terrains of photography, music and literature. This site gathers the works of a 5-month collaboration between participating artists, presenting the jumble of sounds, images and words as materials for visitors to re-interpret through mixing and matching.
Hop around the site, EXPLORE the abundant materials with the auto-generating device CHANCE or see what comes up with each tag. Up to 12 pieces of materials can be collected across the site before you make your way to the preview station by clicking on the number at the top right corner.
At the preview station, you can choose up to 5 still images or 1 moving piece to combine with a set of words or soundtrack or both in creating your own one-minute mix. When you’re ready, hit share to show off your mix to friends and the rest of the world.
We welcome contributions of mixing materials through the CONTRIBUTE page. Selected pieces will be featured alongside other materials on the explore page. Be it a snippet from a work in progress or a passing thought, see where your work goes when they collide with others in the mix.
By entering the site, you agree to our general terms and conditions. See you in there.

Wittgenstein wrote a poem

We prepare glass

when language passes through

When Wittgenstine passes through

When Wittgenstinestine and his language pass through

there's a light

curving

and breaking

          sidestepping

into unspeakable

snow

without hardness

without colour

without     even     a so-called

blanketing

Only the longing a dead person had while alive

for a living person after death

lies on the first bank of the river

On the second bank of the river

lies only the longing a living person while alive has for a dead person after death

As a result…

          Because…

                    Although…

                              Despite…

Clinking     and clanking

on the third

bank of the river

Red balloons blue balloons rise into the sky

Raising your head by chance you see you see

that string once held in your hand

My heart is a little larger than the entire universe

My sadness is a little larger than there

Thank you for once coming to share with me

An occasion arises amid the mountains

amid the waters    looking at you    looking at you

Losing you    and yet    looking at you

Let it be, let it be

Waiting vainly for a second rabbit to appear

one watches a tree and one’s own daft self—

the daft, kind-hearted rabbit is well aware

Please saw off my hands my head

When prosperity comes, you will come–

Come tug my hand, pat my head

Please saw off my hands my head

When prosperity comes, you will come–

Come tug my hand, pat my head

You encounter yourself—

isn’t that neat?

You said it's a whole summer, I said it's one big whole summer, a whole summer vs. one big whole summer, and just like this the fight began.

We were young back then, grassfighting in the fields.

Everything is fleeting/everything will fade away/and what has faded away/will lead to an intimate longing.

In the festive seasons of ancient Jing-Chu

Splashing

in the river of forgetting

Playing in water and forgetting the river

From here

you can ferry

over there

We were young schoolmates in a previous life

In a life previous

to our previous life

we were foes

head-to-head

Oh, you boneheaded jerk.

Oh, you boneheaded boob.

You little-bitty hottie

You little-bitty baddie

If there's a next life

we'd want to fight again

smashing

ourselves   to   pieces

picking a bone with each other—

what do you say?

Note: Pushkin's poem "If by Life You Were Deceived" (Russian)

(A sincere call for medicinal herbs. Grassfighting can be civil or martial. Some styles have a name, some do not have a name. Some can be drawn, some can be written. Some are visible, some invisible. Some have already disappeared and are about to be reborn and reappear. (Cf. Record of the Festivals and Seasonal Customs of the Jing-Chu Region and the Dead|Sheep Scrolls.) This is a sincere call for medicinal herbs. 3D-printed, space-farmed, all good, all OK. You just come along. You just bring some along. Or don't bring any and just come along.)
